This is why there are three throttle return springs on the stock SU setup.
I can't remember what trade journal it is, but there is this guy who
writes these monthly colums where he talks about the various cases
where he was called in as a proffesional engineer to be an expert witness.
He did one on a broken throttle spring once.
If you have an accident as a result of having the engine run away like this
and they find out you only had one throttle return spring that broke, then you
are screwed.
Another way you can get a stuck full throttle on a spridget is if you
reposition the
gas pedal too far away from the firewall (after welding in new floors).
Because of the way the linkage is you can get into a situation where the pedal
goes
down and sort of snap locks into the down position..
This can be very scary if you discover this, at say, an Encounter gymkhana
event...for example.
