For several years, it seems, a local advert appears in the paper for
a 1974 MGB GT for sale. The ad says something like" Over $4000.00
invested. $1500.00"
I finally girded my loins and went for a look-see. I thought it could
be a good winter beater (Wisconsin term)
It is about 10 miles from my house, and off the beaten track. It is
sitting prominently in the front yard (very "rural"). It assumes the
posture of lawn art as it has been sitting there since the ad first
ran several years ago. It is neatly mowed around, and trimmed. I
think it only appears in ad during Spring and Fall, as the bees'
nests are likely less active. Only the rubber bumpers haven't
rusted, though they are decidedly the worse for weather. The bonnet
and roof are nearly rusted through! Paint is "lacking". Any new parts
have acquired considerable patina.
I'm not a purist, and have a few oxidized LBCs myself, but this is
pathetic. (As an aside, just last week Jane, my lovely enabling wife,
suggested the color of a sweatshirt I was considering should be
rust.... it becomes me)
Anyway, if anyone has excess dollars, time, and spare sheet metal, I
can direct you to the vee-hick- hell.
Have a great Monday.
Peter C
