Re: G-Forces...
At one stage in my nefarious life, I was repairing and calibrating
aicraft gyroscope instruments - artificial horizons and compasses.
We started having a run of returned units.
Transportation in the laboratory was always by hand and in specially
designed containers.
An expensive and long inverstigation showed that a technician,
bumping the carrying case into a bench surface at a 3 mph walking
pace could cause an instantaneous G-force of over 800G on the
gyroscope spindles. Thus Brinelling the bearing surface and ruining
the calibration...
Hand transportation was replaced with a conveyor belt system.
Anything is possible if we include 'instantaneous' or short-term
events and/or forces.
