Didn't Ed Roth do a kustom with joystick steering too? Seems like it was one
of his with the bubble tops he made in the pizza oven back in late 50's/ early
60's - maybe Mysterion or Beatnik Bandit?

Nah. A joystick is just the evolution of a tiller, which has been around
since some guy named da Vinci in 1478. It even had programmable steering.
