If you are talking about the one finger salute, it's much older than
FRANCE itself. .. It is recorded that Demosthenes in ancient Athens
held up his middle finger at a rival and said something like..
"here, sit on THIS!" and the gesture has retained roughly the same
meaning ever since... if not BEFORE that even...
