Hi Doug
Two best bets on that route include Manistique, right on the top
of Lake Michigan. If he wants to gamble there is a big casino just East of
Town.
Nice wine tasting place at the Marina in Manistique. Many reasonably
motels right on the lake.

OR

Make it to Escanaba and stay near the
lake at the House of Ludington, far East end of main st. (Ludington St.) which
runs from U.S. 2 & 41 East to the Lake. Famous as a one time hang out of Al
Capone, the hotel also includes a "haunted" room. Rather elegant dining
altho' there are better restaurants for the money in Escanaba. Personal
Fav....The StoneHouse at the corner of Ludington and U.S. 2 & 41 as one passes
through the middle of Escanaba. Can't miss it.
    If your friend is staying
in the U.P. for a week or more, I could load him up with even more
suggestions....Soo Locks, Taquamenon Falls north of Newberry, Houghton,
Brockway Mtn. Drive, the Haunted B & B in a lighthouse in Big Bay and on & on.
    Al

Al - I have an acquaintance who
sent the note below. He is traveling through the UP this coming weekend and
is asking about bed & breakfasts or other scenic hotels on their route. They
are crossing the Mackinac bridge and going West and South around Lake Michigan
to Madison, Wisconsin. Any suggestions? Thanks. Doug ....o~'o

Michigan-ders, my wife and I are going to
take a gander at your fair state.

We'll be at University Motors (Ada)
Saturday morning, then we'll head North to Mackinaw and back around the lake
through Green Bay, and back home near Madison WI. We'll be towing a trailer
full of shock cores from John's.

So, thinkin about some place like a B&B or a
Bates Motel. Just want to relax for an evening over too many cocktails. A view
would be nice, but the bottom of a glass will do.

Any recommendations for
accommodations in the UP?

Thanks

    Peter C.
