Also the next time it does this, stop and remove the gas cap, if you 
hear a rush of air, the cap vent is clogged.
Yes the fuel caps are vented, condensation rusts up the tiny hole, a 
slice of the gasket inside the cap will cure this if you are far from home.
Pepboys has a suitable chrome cap the looks like the original for $8
