Could the hinge bolts themselves be bent or worn this badly?
The hinges (elbow shaped mounting brackets) are prone to cracking. They flex
at the bottom of the "U" shape and eventually break there. Prior to
breaking, they probably stretch out the "U" shape causing the bonnet to be
further out on the cowl and front moorings.
