A relay is used when you need to switch a larger current than the switch is
designed for - eg high wattage headlamps. As well as being designed to cope
with the larger current a relay is cheaper than a new switch.

Are relays used when you want two things to turn on together? Ok, stupid
question. . . but I am curious regarding the application or the reason for
relays?
