The pump will click when empty and running; sounds like a jack-hammer if
dry/empty. Pump probably decided to die at the same time. Without fuel
running thru them, they can over-heat. ...bill

Subject: [Spridgets] Fuel pump problem

Well, it was a nice day to drive my '59 Bugeye yesterday, but I pushed it
too far and ran out of gas when I was on my way to fill up. I put in a
gallon plus, but couldn't get it to start. I'm aware that a previous owner
put an electric fuel pump in, but I only know that from the clicking I can
hear when I turn on the ignition, as I've never explored looking at it.
When I put gas in and turned the key, I don't hear the familiar clicking,
and it seems clear the engine isn't getting gas. Is there something I need
to do to prime the pump? Or, as I fear, did I kill the pump by running it
dry?
Thanks for any help! It's another nice day, and we won't have many more!
Pete
