Hi List,

Just catching up on 200 e-mails while back from the annual family holiday.
Only car in the household is my 69 Sprite so had a hire car - you'd call it a
rental.

What a crappy car - typical 1800cc fuel injection modern, gutless and sloppy
to drive.

So to the memorable content.

1. The 5 year old (6 tomorrow) told me not to drive fast! So I stuck to the
speed limits. After stopping (to let her have a pee) I told the family I'd
have to pull away a bit sharp as leaving the layby (parking lane in US?) onto
a busy dual carriageway would require a quick start. So, by the time I'd
got up to 60 she shouts "I thought I told you not to drive fast". Hmm. A
couple of days later at a Tee junction needing to turn right onto a busy road
(that'd be a left for you guys) I warned the family I'd need another Grand
Prix
start and for no-one to comment this time.... So, after a long wait a
reasonable gap appeared and I pulled out. The car being useless and front
wheel
drive lifted the nose and spun the inside wheel vigourously producing some
noise
and smoke. This time the 5 year old shouts, cheers and laughs. Go figure?

2. Stopping at a service station for the wife to stop and have a pee on the
way home I had to join a busy dual carriageway. No need for a Grand Prix
start though I was up to 60mph pretty quickly. In the overtaking lane I see
really old and I mean a lot older than a Spridget, car coming up fast and it
passed me (remember I am in the rental car not my Sprite). A single guy doing
about 70mph in this tiny car that at first looked like an Austin Seven. As
he passed me the make of the car was on the back of it and I was no longer
surprised - 'Frazer Nash'. So when did anyone see a car that old going that
fast on the public highway and passing them?

W E S L A K E 1330 - a lot better than Vauxhall Vectra 1.8
