That depends on whether you intend to treat them as normal roller
bearings or follow the late MGB concept of retaining the pot-metal
spacer, like John Twist does, in the hope that it makes it stronger.
I imagine that bearing engineers just look at you funny if you suggest
doing this. My roller bearings have been working just fine for the last
three or four years with no spacer through long road trips, autocrosses
and many other exercises and about 30,000 miles. I suppose I ought
to open them up this winter and inspect them.
