You've got to "open up" (cut out metal) from the turret to accomodate Datsun
shifter location/shift gates (pattern), Jim.
Position the turret "Long" vertical lengh toward the tail of the car in any
event.
To "fill" the "enlarged gap", you can use an MGB rubber shift boot.
Place packing foam or whatever between transmission and underside of shifter
boot
to deaden noise and also to protect to the extent possible the rubber boot from
transmission heat, thus increasing it's
service life.
