Hello Paul,
don't trust comsumer reports either tho when i comes to cars
unless you treat your cars as appliances. ... BUT there are
interesting stories about Prius economics in magazines devoted
to cars and those articles show that you're better off buying
the regular high mileage toyota than you are the prius UNLESS
you figure to own the car for well over (if i recall correctly)
150,000 miles (with $3+/gallon) gasoline, and, if you could
get a eurospec VW turbo-diesel you can get better mileage,
without having the idiosyncracies of potential prius battery
replacement, ETC!...
EVERY long term, (one year or more) test of the prius has it
getting right around 42 mpg on average. a honda FIT, Toyota
Yaris, or Nissan VERSA is very very close to that at THOUSANDS
of $$$$$ less...
oops... enough rant,....
