Actually, it is not "snoop", it is "snopes". Just go to www.snopes.com and 
put a word (in this case, "mathes") in the Search box and viola is your 
uncle ;-)

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/allah.asp is the link you want, but 
be aware that they were able to tracethe event to the prison where it 
happened and got a somewhat different version from there.
