Reid, there are plenty of downsides.
The 2008 50th Anniversary Race Series will be attached to the various
vintage race groups that sanction the events. (VIR, SVRA, VSCDA VARAC)
The insurance for the events is covered. These organizations put on large
car meetings every month. There are plenty of events taking place that are
special, and don't require the AHCA's involvement.
You took this same attitude when you went public about this last time.
Your words... "Perceived slights and injustices". How would you know if a
slight or injustice is perceived or actual? There are enough Sprite owners
and Sprite racers whose collective asses have been chapped by the AHCA that
they don't care to be involved with it.
I know for a fact that the AHCA's involvement in the recent US/Australia
challenge was a lot more trouble than it was worth.
My call? AHCA? No Thanks.

Guys,
You may be overlooking an obvious source of support and assistance, and that
is the Austin-Healey Club of America. You want insurance? Experience in
staging large car meetings? A desire to make the 50th anniversary of the
Sprite/Spridget a really special event? Well then look no further than the
AHCA.
You can rant about past perceived slights and injustices, or you can ask for
their support and assistance, assistance which I believe will be readily
forthcoming. Sarcasm will get you nowhere. Cheap shots don't organize,
insure or coordinate car meets.
There's just really no downside. The 2008 Conclave is slated for San Diego,
and I understand that the Sprite is to be the featured car there. That
could be the west coast celebration. Duplication of effort and the
concomitant waste of resources just doesn't make any sense.
Look, I know how some of you feel. I own a Porsche 914, and it is not
exactly the most-admired car at any given Porsche club event (despite the
fact that it still kicks butt in the corners at track days). But as I say,
reliving and reviewing past perceived slights will gain us exactly NOTHING.
Taking advantage of the resources and experience of the AHCA WILL.
Your call. Good luck.
Cheers,
Reid
