Replacing rubber bumpers

I've found a really pristine '78 Midget, but I really hate the rubber
bumpers.  I've only owned earlier ones, but from catalog listings it looks
as if the fenders and valances may be the same on the rubber-bumper models
as on the late chrome-bumper cars.  Can a change to chrome bumpers be made
relatively painlessly ?
