ZERO. Most Sprites have no free play. Now if it was a big Healey, an
inch is great but not on a Sprite.
Check the splines and pinch bolt at the column/pinion. In fact, pull it
off and look at the splines. Something is not right. How are the outer
tie rod ends? Rack clamped to the body tight?
