Anticipating this question, I answer: "If the crankshaft has too much 
endplay, it takes away from the effective throw of the trowout bearing 
(because the crankshaft, flywheel and pressure plate can all move forward 
when you hit the clutch).  Thus, your clutch won't properly disengage."
