That is not entirely true. Yes, when the Midget was introduced, it cost
more. This was because: 1. it WAS an MG and that did mean something at that
time; and 2. it had a number of extra details and appointments that the
Sprite did not (sorta like a Buick version of a Chevy). However, by the time
the Healey contract with Austin expired in 1969, the difference here in the
US and A was the royalty paid to the Donald, and therefore the Sprite was
more expensive.
I was reading Classic Motorsports yesterday and finally getting around to an
article about a couple of concours Jags, an XK120 Alloy and an XK140. The
article mentioned that, when the XK140 came out in 1955, it was one of the
first production cars with rack and pinion steering. Maybe so, Mr Cosell,
but by that time the MG TD with rack and pinion steering had already been
discontinued in favor of the MG TF, also with R & P. Just thought it was
funny...
