Not a "save" at all, Kirk!!!

The early PerTronix had their problems for
sure, but that was some time ago.

I have been running a PerTronix for years with no problems though the initial
unit
failed due to mis-installation. Somehow the
wire got fouled between the vacuum plate
and side of the dizzy. Wore the insulation
through and shorted out. Not the fault of
the unit, though. It's replacement (provided
free by PerTronix!:) has been running just
fine for over two years and 10K.

If and when I replace it, we'll go to a PerTronix "2", if available. I matched
it with
a " coil so no compatibility problems in
this respect. Normally I'd go with PerTronix wires as well but I've a set of
Nology Hotwires. These are expensive so they're
gonna get used!! Everything is working well
together apparently.

Prior to the PerTronix, used Crane 700 and
3000 units for 10 years+ and many thousands of miles with no problems with
any of their units.

I prefer the PerTronix considering my mostly excellent aircraft experience with
HED (Hall Effect Device = Magnetic "trigger") and the fact the unit
is contained wholly within the dizzy. No
external boxi, extra wires, etc.

PerTronix also makes a conversion for the
Mallory Dual Points distributor as well.

There are different types of coils with varying degrees of resistance but since
I
match components in this respect, I am
not familiar. Perhaps another lister who is
knowledgeable in this respect can chime
in and we'll both learn something! :)
