Yes...
"Fuel smell" is a pretty wide open sorta
thing!!
Chris K. offers some good places to look
but since it's a UK car, I have no clue what emissions controls it would
have,
if any, besides a simple crankcase PCV system.
However, a leaky fuel evaporaive loss
system (or saturated charcoal within the
engine compartment "cannister") is often
the culprit in cars so equipped.
A minor fuel line leak through old rubber
hoses won't show...it evaporates too quickly. Same with corroding fuel
line...
gotta wait for he leak to "grow" before
you see it on the ground beneath the
car, etc.
Sometimes putting the car up on a lift
and proceeding logically from one end
of the car to the other is definitely the
way to go for sure.
Running rich may not be a case of
of the condition of carburetor, but of setting, so a Colortune is going
in the
right direction in this instance, for sure.
In the end you'll find it and perhaps learn
a little along the way! :)
