The bridge of the carb is the flat bottom you see as you look into the
carb from the air intake (from the point of the view of the air
filter). The jet is the column which is vertical to that bridge, into
which the needle descends. As you look at things from the outside, and
push up on the jet from the bottom with the adjusting nut all the way
closed, you will see the jet rise to or above the level of the bridge.
That is the adjustment starting point the manual is looking for. When
it is adjusted properly (12 flats), it should be about a sixteenth to an
eighth of an inch below the level point, creating a slightly sunken
circle in the middle of the bridge, with the needle going down through
the middle of it.
