According to factory maint. manual...
Hypoid Gear Oil in the original (Austin) racks (same as differential)
and.....
...Grease in the later (Triumph) racks.
However...
I have used grease in the early racks
(until the acquisition of my factory maint.
manual wherein I learned differently) with
no apparent detriment.
A return to hypoid gear oil in the foregoing
case allowed for much less steering effort, most especially in colder,
winter temps.
