Mike....
60 series don't do too well on 5" rims...
they're doable but not recommended. Your far better off with most of the
tire
"under" rather than "outside" the rim.
I have 175/70's on 5.5" rims. No rubbing
in the back and the diameter of the tire
just clears the bonnet's front wheel
well bodywork in the turns.
How the 155/80 stacks
up against the 175/70 in terms of
diameter I do NOT know. But a tire
mfg. should.
The 70 series is great in the dry due to
slightly wider footprint which is not
so great in contaminated conditions, all
else being equal.
The slimmer 80 series would be better
in the rain (all else being equal)...slightly
more narrow footprint.
Since we don't go driving around cornering at 10/10th's, it seems to me
the latter would be more useful on the
daily driver.
So let me know if the 155/80's will fit
when you find out 'cause I'll probably
go this way in future! :)
