There was a thread recently about a cracked A-arm. Here is another story,
sadly about my Meejit!
I developed a bit of a clunk somewhere, pretty sure in the front right.
Checked wheel bearing ok, kingpin ok. Even put it up on a lift and went all
around. The car even passed our relatively tough MA safety inspection.
Finally I decided that I would remove the front right shock....bushings?....in
other words grasping at straws...
As soon as I disconnected the shock arm from the kingpin trunnion, I noticed
that I could move the fulcrum pin by rocking it forward. I could NOT do this
with the shock arm connected though!! The pin had been banging around in it's
threads and actually worn through the A-arm. Not a pretty sight.
So lube those pins, boys and girls!! And check them carefully. A failure
would ruin one's whole day.
