I don't know about todays points but way back when I was a kid,
points came coated in cosmoline or wax to protect the contacts.
You had to clean them before installing them.
Just a thought. If they are NOS, clean the contacts.
I don't know about new points, I still clean them with a shot of carb 
cleaner whenever I replace them.
