It helps to see something you personally care about threatened by
stupidity--and it isn't as farfetched as it seems. Maybe a few Spridgeteers
at least will think the next time they vote for punitive legislation (special
taxes) or government control as a way of stopping something.
A few years ago, the locals had a push for getting rid of your old "gas
guzzler" that still ran. One lady (on the TV clip) had a really
well-cared-for Chevy Nova that was about 20 years old, and that she said she
wasn't going to replace. You could tell that she felt a civic duty to let go
of that Nova because it polluted the air and wasted gas, and it made me want
to cry. She could have driven it to the grocery store for another 10 to 15
years without hurting a thing, if she lived that long.
