The best temporary bonnet prop is one of those adjustable extensions for
paint rollers.

Fixing the problem is quite easy. Fabricate the bracket you need from some
90 degree angle steel and pop rivet it to the fender (2 rivets). I've dome
this before. It's quite easily done.
