1400 cars!!! Back sometime in the early 1980's, I remember initiating a
fall weekend excursion to Wildwood the weekend after the firemen's
convention, which was then considered the last event of the tourist season.
The Delaware Valley Classic MG Chapter would rent out an entire beachfront
motel for a couple of hundred bucks and a fifth of whiskey for the manager.
The first or second year we did this, the Vistor's Bureau or somesuch
decided to start a "cruise" and car display on the Boardwalk. We took a few
of the MG-T's down and lined them up with the hotrods, the occassional
flivver, and the 50's Caddies (that seem so popular with the gold chain
necklace crowd from Joisey). Total number of show entrants: About 30!

BTW: The owner of the motel eventually finished the whiskey, bought a TD,
sold the motel, and started joining us at a replacement dive down the
street. He was still a member of the Chapter when I moved from Philadelphia
in 1991.
