Spridgeteers,
I am trying to document the racing history of my "Bugeye" Sprite- Car was
originally painted red, but was sporting some kind of orange color for a
while... If there is any So Cal spridgeteer who was around So Cal racing
circuits in the 1960s and early 1970s, and knew the drivers mentioned below,
could you give me more details about where they raced, etc? Anybody has
records of SCCA races from the 60s and 70s where the car might be mentioned?
RACE HISTORY:
1960-1970 Tony Garvin, El Cajon, CA - SCCA H-P. I have been told Tony
Garvin died in 1976.
1970-1972 Bob Lewis, San Diego, CA - SCCA H-P (Won Castrol Winter Series
in So Cal in 1970- or was it 1971?)- car sold in 1972 (?) to Bob Stapleford.
I bought the car from Bob Stapleford's widow. Bob never raced the car with
SCCA, but started racing it with VARA in 1999.
I just spoke with another driver who raced that car in the 1960s- Jim Hawes.
He is sending me a photo of him racing the Sprite at Riverside.
I believe there was another driver who may have raced that car- Chick Dimond
(sp?).
