The new OE fuel pump on my 72 Midget was installed about 2 months ago. It was
working well as of 2 days ago (Tues) The car has not been driven for a month
but was started 3 or 4 times a week while on jackstands. The only work being
done near the fuel pump was opening and clearing the break lines at the union
on the rear axel and just outside the tunnel at the rear frame clip. The only
electrical parts (knowingly) involved were disconnecting the pressure fail
switch, the stop light switch and the battery.
Just finished the job and reassembled/reconnected everything and tried to
start the car. The fuel pump would not stop clicking. I tried the ignition
many times - 4-5 seconds a try - after a dozen or so tries the engine started
but was starved for fuel. Rechecked all fittings and connections in the engine
compartment and pulled off the rt.rear wheel to check if anything had been
knocked loose from the fuel pump and could not find anything.
I have had the car for 2 months and it is my first Midget so I don't know if
this something particular to the car, a known problem, punishment for
disturbing parts and systems that had been happily slumbering for a few years
or just my glazed-over eyes and addled brain overlooked the obvious. What is
it? Coincidental fuel line blockage?
