Did I miss the warm welcome stuff?
$500 and no rust - great start - unless it's been outside in the
weather since.
Compression 90 to 120 not so good. To get the motor going pull the
plugs and lightly preoil and hand rotate - if you are not at all
fussy then don't change the oil with 5w20, check or clean out the
carbs for old gas deposits, or introduce a fresh gas supply. Do a
quick check under the dist cap, put 12 volts to it and spin it.
Sparking plugs and a little oil pressure are good things to see at
this stage.
Static check the timing, coolant, fur balls in the exhaust and now
put the plugs back in. Be ready with the Quick Start and have a
go. If it runs even a bit read all the entrails - smoke, belching
and assorted noises. Play around all you like, but a compression
test (with throttle open & possibly warm) is now looming to
determine your future.
Trani and diff are best diagnosed by driving, Brakes are usually
massive toast, ie corroded masters, wheel cylinders. As u can
deduce I have road tested most wrecks without hydraulic brakes,
with the emerg good for one app before it locks up, and usually
very little for a clutch.
