David,

I tried all three float orientations, and the one across the axis is by far
the best and the one I have used for the past year. If memory serves,
doesn't your MGA have the same basic type engine as the MGB? Could you take
a glance and tell me what angle the float bowls are in the MGA? I'd really
appreciate it!! This has been driving me nuts for the past two years, and
this float bowl thing has got to be it.

Sounds like the fuel in the float bowl is sloshing forward and causing
the float to rise up and shut off fuel. Try orienting the top of the
float bowl so the axis of the float is across the car, rather than down
the center. Now, this may cause the car to stutter when cornering hard,
but try it. Perhaps the whole problem is exacerbated by your custom
setup, the float bowl may be tilted at an angle that wasn't contemplated
in its design.
