No "spacer" used on my "modern" bearings, either, Gerard.

Mounted on 5.5 Minilite wannabes (Westerns), 175/70's, running 1/2
degree
negative camber, tube shocks, 3/4 bar.

No bearing problems in 10K+ miles of
mixed highway/town driving. Don't
speed but corner pretty fairly rapidly
25% of the time.
