You ain't seen bad roads until you travel upstate New York. They don't
fix the pot holes, because the troopers can sit back off the road and
watch the approaching headlights. Those that go back & forth are
controlled by drivers who are sober enough to try to miss the worst
ones, while those going up & down are stopped and checked for DUII. One
hole was so bad that a motorist went to a wrecking yard and chopped the
top off a VW Bug. He then waited for a suitable rainstorm, and placed
the car top in the center of the puddle. His next step was a phone call
to the newspaper & TV station. The hole was patched within the week.
