I have to comment on Arkansas roads...I never really knew how bad they were
until I tried to drive our little basketcase home. Now remember, I got a
heck of a deal on a 75 Midget with parts car and a spare transmission. Of
course, the little car didn't just have bad shocks...it had NO shocks. I
thought I was going to flip on the interstate. Of course, I only stayed on
it until the first exit and pulled over. My poor hubbie was following me.
Top speed on the interstate was 35mph. Luckily, I got on the old state two
lane highway and was able to control the car at 45mph.
Kind of STINKS when the backroads are better than the interstate!!! I
always knew we had bad roads. Back in college with the first Midget I drove
from Arlington, TX to Hot Springs, AR for vacations. I would hit the
stateline and it always felt like the bottom falling out of my little car.
But I do have some good news...our little Midget will be out of the shop
tomorrow after three weeks. We've replaced the front end and the back end,
the shocks, the clutch, the brake lines, and rebuilt the transmission.
Luckily, the body of the car is very sound with no rust or bondo....looks
like it's never been wrecked. I bought it from a guy who had just repainted
and redone the interior so it looks good on the outside. The motor is
strong and was also rebuilt before I purchased it.
Anyone want to guess at the mechanic bill???? :)
