Hi David,
That's an OK way when you have a donor car. However, it costs about the
same to shorten a driveshaft that comes with non user replaceable u-joints
as the new Datsun yoke and u-joint that comes with my kit. Buying a used
Datsun driveshaft puts the cost up higher.
On the Morris, its driveshaft and the Datsun one are the same length, so it
can be used with no mods if you get one with a donor car.
Keep in mind though, that the used driveshaft yoke is not as nice as the
new yoke supplied.

Re: Re: 5 Speed Tranny Kit
Something interesting to note...
The stock drive shaft from the donor Datsun has the same bolt pattern to
the
differential as the spridget drive shaft. It bolts right up perfect. On
my
conversion all I did was shorten the Datsun drive shaft. No need to mix
and
match yoke, u-joints, etc. The driveline shop even installed zerk type
replaceable u-joints. An added bonus, the Datsun drive shaft weighs less
than the MG shaft. Then just use the stock rear transmission seal as
designed.
