Land/Range Rover

My Fellow British Auto Enthusiasts,

Anyone own a British SUV or know about them?  I'm considering purchasing
a 1990 Land Rover but know little.... okay, nothing... about them.

Any words of advice or warnings?  I'm not stuck on this particular
vehicle so if there are better years to have, by all means let me know.
Hey, I don't even know what engines were available and when... but I do
know at least some share the TR8's (basic) engine.
