Some of the quickest racing Spridgets I have seen haven't looked that
impressive under the bonnet but were fastest lap and race winning cars. On
the other hand I have seen plenty of race cars that looked expensive (but not
impressive to me) under the bonnet but simply were a poor collection of
expensive parts but togther by the well heeled ignorant. And for
completeness the cars that made made the most noise or were driven the
quickest in the paddock generally proved to be the slowest cars on the track
(I always take the car number to provide ongoing validation of my theory).
Of course the same goes for road cars.
