Due to Modem problems I haven't been to any web site long enough to see much
but I accept what you have said. The reason for caution on my part is that I
have a custom made manifold that costs several hundreds of pounds to have
re-made whenever it needs replacing on account of it being non-standard.
One company over here is not keen on turbo wrap because they consider that
they shorten turbo bearing life because the turbo runs even hotter than usual.
I don't doubt that what you plan will significantly reduce under bonnet heat
- my concerns were that in the short to medium term this might prove more
expensive than some of the alternatives.

<< As you may be able to make out from the photos posted to Gerard's web site,
the manifold is custom made and very short reach to the turbo that sits
where the SUs would normally be. I think the addressable part of the heat
problem is the exhaust pipe from the turbo outlet. It starts forward toward
the top tank of the radiator, making a quick 180 and then dropping out the
bottom of the car to continue on as normal. This leaves about two feet of
extremely hot 2" pipe exposed in the high part of the engine compartment.
This is the part I would be wrapping. Since this is the sort of pipe that
is easily fabricated at any muffler shop I'm not really worried about a
possible reduction in life. Fact is, if it does rot out soon, I can have a
better fitted one made that will give more clearance to the radiator top
tank.
Many of the successes I've enjoyed in life are from doing exactly what
others tell me are impossible or unadviseable. In this case I'm more that
willing to risk a few feet of cheap pipe.
