Tyson,
My '75 Midget shifter was very stiff and felt like it didn't want to go
into (any) gear when I first got it. In my situation, I discovered that the
end cap (cover) at the end of the shift tower was missing and that exposure
to the elements and years of non-use allowed all the lubrication at the
shifter to dry out. An application of my choice of lubricants did the trick
of freeing it up and it works perfectly ever since. Remove the shift gaiter
for access.
Can you shift the car while it's parked and the engine is not running? If
not I would suspect the same problem.
