Now this is a story that has been around for several years.
I first heard it about 10 years ago, when I lived in Northumberland and it
was told to me then by a friend who's brother, whom I had also met, was in
the Northumbria Police force.
He was convinced it was true, 'though I never heard the addition of the bit
about the Maverick missile. The incident was supposed to have taken place on
the Rothbury to Alnwick road, on the crest of a hill, in an area where low
flying practice is frequent.
