Curt,
In the mid '60's when Pirelli first started building tires for "heavy" cars
we had seven tires on a MB suffer with cracks between the treads. Pirelli
(at least the dealer) replaced all of the tires. In 1980 we had a tread
crack on a Pirelli and could not get the tire replaced. It was not Pirelli
but their dealer(s) that was the problem. That tire was a high speed rated
tire (somewhere in the 135-150 mph range) and was an original tire on a
Volvo. There were only three local Pirelli dealers who would get these tires
(don't ask me why) and they were not interested in helping me since the tires
were not purchased from them. Otherwise we have been very pleased with
Pirelli's, indeed they are our favorite tires but that may be just us.

I have never had a steel belted tire go flat and I have used many in much
worse conditions than my XJ6 sees. Has anyone else seen a similar failure
with a pirelli and if they did were they able to get it fixed under
warranty? >>
