When running without a thermostat, you should use a special blanking
plate in its place. This will force coolant to the year of the cylinder
head keeping the whole thing cool instaed of just #1 cylinder and its
nearby heat sensor.
Thermostats are really a good way of keeping your engine happy in street
use, even in high temperature country. Overheating is usually indicative
of other problems, including poor initial design.
