A few weeks ago I reported my difficulty and then success in extracting the
broken off speedometer cable tip from the gearbox (smoothcase) end. After
installing the new cable, I was disappointed - it still didn't work.
Today I took the new cable out, and guess what...broken again. I deduce that
the cable is not the problem, and try to remove the drive pinion from the
gearbox. However, my largest (1") socket is too small, and I can't get my
larger size combination wrenches into place.
Some questions if anyone can help. Is a socket the best tool for removing
this piece? What size do I need to buy? Once I get the pinion out, what
should I look for and how can I test it to see what the problem is?
Thanks,
