A guess about the "rattle": Check you engine & transmission mounts. If
the rubber portion of one of them has sheared off, gotten soft, or been
mashed out of shape it could cause the noise you describe.
As for the windshield product, we have some wonderful stuff over here
called Rain-X. I don't know if it's distributed in England/Europe, but
I bet it is. Wonderful stuff. You don't need wipers at anything over
35 MPH in a Midget (about 20 MPH in something with a more streamlined
windshield).
