The Lucas Sport coil is not really conidered an HEI type coil. An HEI coil
puts out 60k+ volts, has I believe a very low ohms rating, and is not used
with a points-type system. The Lucas Sport coil, which can be used with
points (obviously) only puts out 40k. MiniMania sells both the Lucas Sport
coil and the Ignitor and they emphatically state (3 minutes ago on the
phone) that the two work together fine.
Again, from the Pertronix info: "The Ignitor is compatible with any "Point
Type" after-market or OEM coil regardless of voltage output."
I suspect the real issue is the current (as reflected by the ohms rating
warning), but this is just a guess.

PS: As interest seems strong on this topic, I will keep you apprised of the
performance/reliability of this combo. I can say that already the plug gap
is fine at 0.045" and I might go wider. The car fires right up under
admittedly summer conditions and runs smoother. BUT, I may have gotten the
same gains from a new set of points anyway. Hey, my wife liked the Sport
Coil look and needed to buy me a gift. What can I say?
