Lordy! I never realized that when I raised a few questions about "national"
clubs and magazines that I would strike such a sensitive nerve. Certainly
they have prompted some comments in this public forum. But my e-mail has
been filled with 76 messages with some surprising comments, the
overwhelming of which echo the sentiments I expressed. But they have gone
further to cite instances of organizational problems and discontent. If my
e-mail is any indicator, I suspect that both organizations are sitting on a
major problem, since the consensus is, in the words of the immortal John L.
Lewis (the 1930's head of the United Mine Workers), "A plague on BOTH your
houses!"
What I found distressing was some of the vitriolic, downright arrogant
nastiness expressed in private e-mail. The vehemence of some of these
notes cause me to wonder what IS going on, and believe that more questions
should be raised. While many would like to silence any questioning, I have
never known any issue that did not benefit from public discussion and
debate.
In the meantime, I thought I would share with everyone a sampling of the
comments I have received:
> My read on the situation is that they've just got too much ego to let go
> ....I wish they'd stop acting like kids throwing sand in each others
> faces and get on with it.
> Well said Bob.
> You hit the nail on the head...what do we pay for?
> Between [names deleted]... it's no wonder nothing came of it.
> Both had ridiculous personal agendas.
> The straw that broke the camel's back was the Chatter issue with

> Most Healey businesses are not raking in piles of cash, and would
> most likely welcome only one magazine to advertise in.
> I don't attend any of the national events, I think they are too
> snooty for my taste.

> chucking both of them.
> I agree, what is next?
