I bought a 66 Caddy that had been sitting for 7 years. It only had 70kmls on it but was one big smoke machine at some time, but wasn't smoking at all at other times. We eventually reringed the pistons. The old ones barely moved in the ring grooves because old hardened oil was holding them stuck. I am not at all suggesting that this is your problem, I am merely answering your last question. Did it behave like this before you installed the VB head?
